Our
Story
Who Are We?
We are a husband-and-wife team that started into this line of work purely out of necessity but fell in love with it from the very start! Being your own boss and seeing concrete, immediate impacts from your work is a fantastic and liberating feeling!
When we bought our first house, we were newly weds and new grads, with student loans, starting salaries, and big ideas. We bought what we could afford and it needed a complete redo! That is how it all began.
How-to books (no internet then), listening to knowledgeable people, and being willing to give things a try, moved us through the years as we took on almost every project imaginable. Our first attempt was taking an indoor, corner jacuzzi tub out through a second story apartment window in one piece, to turn it into our outdoor hot tub by insulating it and building a skirt around it. Before long we were tackling major kitchen and bathroom remodels, entire home flip-its, massive shed/shops/barn construction, tearing down entire sections of old farm houses for rebuilds and retrofitting and managing multiple income properties and massive site prep for lots and severances. This was in addition to working in education, kinesiology and engineering, raising two children and completing further education (including a diploma in interior design and a master's in engineering and more...), volunteering on community boards, at schools, coaching, traveling for leisure and work, snowmobiling, boating, gardening, taking salvage hunting trips to auctions, flea markets and Kijiji locations, authoring 14 Christian children's stories (www.maziemoobookclub.com), along with some hobby farming tossed on the side. Let's just say it's been busy!

With sustainable and cost- effective ambitions, creative and custom design solutions became a critical component of how we do things. Re-using and re-purposing materials became our mission both as a cost saver and a planet saver. In addition, visiting salvage sites and antique shops to re-use and highlight beautiful items made with care and skill, blended well with our sustainable, design approach. As outdoor enthusiasts, we also stress the use of as many natural products in our design as possible from wool rugs, to cotton linen, plants and reclaimed wood and stone. We believe strongly in connecting with the outdoors so we bring as much of it indoors as possible.
We find as we move through the years, we shift and transition our purpose, goals and productions. While in the past our focus was on flipping homes, and then renovating and repurposing campers, wagons and other larger items for personal use or sale.
Now we would like to help facilitate others in their DIY projects and get thinking and share ideas about ways of achieving this while using sustainable and conservation practices!
